Pattern for Baby Pram or Capsule Cover.
For each block
you will need -
For picture fussy cut middle square:
4 x 2.5 inch square fussy cut pieces.
For first border:
4 x 13” cut 1.5” wide of four different
coloured homespun or plain coloured fabric
For second border:
20” x 2.5”
wide. For each block.
I used a Layer
Cake and cut into strips so they were 10” x 2.5” this means you use two for
each square.
But of
course you can cut it from any fabric and it worked well to have two strips 10”
x 2.5” for each block.
If you would
like to add interest – On the third square I used a different fabric on the
second border sides. This will need
around 9” of fabric of course 2.5” wide.
Sashing:
To join
together you will need 32” cut 1.5” wide.
For the
outer sashing you will need 74” x 2.5” wide.
I never cut
exact to the measurements with this type of quilt, I just sew and trim. Then press. I find that it works out well and I suppose it
is because I am basically looking for the short cuts with a quality outcome.
Backing and Batting:
You will
need 20” x 20” for each.
Constructing the blocks:
To sew the
blocks start by making sure you have your fussy cut the right way up, and then
sew a 1.5” border piece on each side of the square. Press the seams inward.
Then sew the
border to the top and bottom of the square.
Trim the
seams and press.
Add the
outer border, by sewing to the sides first as you did with the first one. Then do the top and the bottom of the block.
Trim and press
the seams and repeat on the four other squares.
Then cut all
blocks to 8” square.
Sew the 1.5”
border to the bottom of block one, Press.
Then
Join block
one to block three and then press and repeat with block two and block four.
Trim and
press all seams.
Sew your
border down the right side of blocks one and three, Press then Join the first double
block to the second one from top to bottom making sure that the blocks are
sitting straight along the top and matching each other.
Sew your 2.5”
border around the four blocks.
Sandwich
with your batting and backing fabric and quilt.
I always cut
my binding 2.5” wide and double it for strength.
